Op-ed: My Stepdad is Surprisingly Pretty Chill

In a shocking turn of events, my new stepdad is surprisingly pretty chill. Ever since my parents got divorced, I have had a rough go at it. Split custody on the weekends for a 20-year-old can be kind of frustrating. Plus, my dad lives in a condo and doesn’t want me coming over anymore because I’m too old. 

Back in August, my mom married this guy named Richard. My mom had been single for a really long time, so I thought this day would never come. I assumed Richard would be such a huge dick because he's a stepdad, but he’s actually just a really nice guy. He got me a new Xbox for my birthday, which was awesome. We play Minecraft together now. He also said he was proud of me? This is all new for me. Something about him just feels safe. My new stepdad also moved my mom and me into his 20-story mansion.

I think I’m going to ask him to adopt me.
