Guy Best Friend Wants to Know What You’re Doing February 14th

As the season of love ravages FSU’s campus, insufferable couples find new ways to tell everyone they have a beau this Valentine’s: “beautiful boy” TikTok trends and “show off your love” on IG stories. Many people are single, and are forced to think about that reality every day of February. Many women have guy best friends: non-threatening boys who will take pictures of them at sunset and only lightly joke about the possibility of dating, but you both laugh because you know that would never happen. This time of year, though, one is just casually asking if you have any plans on the second Monday of the month, you know, just to hang out as friends.

“He keeps asking if I want to see a rom-com at the SLC or eat at Table 23 on ‘Monday’ as if I don’t know it’s Valentine’s Day,” said FSU senior Tatiana Cupicks, as she gently scooped Hershey kisses out of an Acaí bowl and onto a napkin. “He’ll send me texts like ‘You’re the best’ with a bunch of heart emojis. They’re green hearts, so they don’t look as romantic, and it’s not like he’s sending me the emoji of the face with the hearts, but still, a heart is a heart. I don’t see him romantically or sexually, though. He’s just an amorphous blob who I just happen to have sleepovers with sometimes.”

“I just don’t see what the big deal is,” said Nick Guy as he finished out his “Clash of Clans” battle. “I know she’s not seeing anyone on Monday, so why can’t we hang out one-on-one as just totally platonic friends? If you ask me, she’s the one making it weird,” he stated as he liked one of Tatiana’s posts on Instagram and left a “so beautiful *heart emoji*” comment. “I would never want to jeopardize our friendship, I mean, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said as he did a “what is my red flag” TikTok Trend. (He got ‘cringe.’)

Whether you’re trying to hang out with a crush on the sexiest day of the year or trying to avoid your gamer guy best friend, Valentine’s Day means a lot of complicated feelings are definitely incoming. Don’t worry, the 14th of February will pass soon, for you singles out there, but the emotions of unrequited love and perpetual loneliness are here to stay.
